Table of Contents:
1. Berta's Childhood - Detailing the period from her birth in 1909 to her departure for art school, this chapter includes extensive new material on her early years, including her precocious artistic abilities.
2. The Munich Years - Having reached maturity, Berta leaves the rural life for art school in Munich where she excels-finish first in her class-and makes a momentous personal decision.
3. Sister Maria Innocentia - From art school, Berta enters the Franciscan Convent at Siessen. Her artistic efforts receive acclaim. There are significant commissions, and the first "M.I. Hummel" figurines made by W. Goebel are introduced.
4. The Final Years - As her talent ascends, her health weakens. Her art helps
the Convent exist against Nazi antagonism. But as the war draws to a close, it
is too late. Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel dies in 1946.
5. The Name Lives On - After a wartime slowdown W.Goeble resumed full scale production of "M.I. Hummel" figurines.
6. The Collection - Detailed notes on every figurine ever made. More than 225 color photographs showing every variation and rarity known to exist within the complete collection.
7. History & Explanation of Marks and Symbols - This is the one and only
accurate account of all markings ever used on W. Goebel's "M.I. Hummel"
figurines. And, also for the first time, every number is tracked down and
accounted for. This has never appeared in print before, and will be a valuable
reference for collectors, appraisers, auctioneers, and dealers.
8. How The Hummel Figurines Are Made - A behind-the-scenes report on the meticulous way in which each figurine is created, including step-by-step information - with photographs - recorded directly at W.
